Report to trustees updates Purdue Moves initiative for world-changing research

At the Purdue trustees meeting today (Feb. 26), Suresh Garimella, executive vice president for research and partnerships, and Jay Akridge, the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture, provided an update of the world-changing research initiative in Purdue Moves.
Presentation highlights included:
* $251.25 million in sponsored program awards year to date and a trend of increasing industry and foundation support over the last few years.
* $250 million investment in the life sciences, including the pillars of excellence initiative and new Integrative Neuroscience Center and Institute for Inflammation, Immunology and Infectious Disease.
* 15 drugs in human clinical trials.
* Purdue Moves' Plant Sciences initiative progress including new faculty hired, an automated plant phenotyping facility to open this spring, and a new controlled environment phenotyping project approved by the Board of Trustees today.
* Commercialization increasing with the Foundry including $2 million Ag-Celerator venture capital fund, Certificate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation available to students and Launch Box process for startups.
* Discovery Park strategic themes of regarding global health and global challenges at the nexus of energy, food, water and the environment.
