Purdue United Way Campaign at midpoint

A little over the midpoint of the 2016 campaign, Purdue United Way is looking to build on its momentum in order to reach the stretch goal of $900,000. As of Monday (Oct. 24), the campaign had raised $587,829.20 or 65 percent of the goal.

Pam Horne, Purdue United Way Campaign chair, says Purdue campaign leaders hope to reach this year's goal by Nov. 16, which is the day of the Purdue campaign Victory Celebration.

The goal for the entire United Way of Greater Lafayette campaign, to which Purdue's campaign contributes, is $5 million.  Purdue's campaign over the last five years has marginally increased. However, this year, the Purdue United Way campaign was challenged by Morgan Burke at the kickoff luncheon to strive for a stretch goal of $900,000.

This year's overall campaign theme is "Moment of Truth" -- a turning point when we all realize that "we're all United Way people." A video about this year's United Way of Greater Lafayette Campaign is here.

Purdue, as a major employer in the county, has stood proudly among leading contributors for many years. "It's about people coming together as a community to make us stronger. Boilermakers make things happen. When we care about each other we have the power to make positive change in our community and in our world," says Becky Hershey, director of Purdue United Way.

An email solicitation from Purdue United Way will be sent out this week encouraging faculty and staff to consider participating in this year's campaign. Every person and every dollar makes a difference.

Faculty and staff should note new incentives this year:

* Amazon Echos and Amazon gift cards.

* Full day and half-day paid time off.

* Purdue Athletics memorabilia.

* For every new or increased gift of $100 or more, the Lilly Endowment will give a dollar-for-dollar matching gift.

Faculty, staff and retirees may contribute to Purdue's campaign by going online and logging into the ePledge system. Donors can choose among several methods -- payroll deduction, one-time credit card donation or recurring monthly donations, or by check.

The campaign ends Nov. 16. Donations must be received by that date to be counted in this year's campaign.
