Purdue torchbearers ready to run

Purdue has 20 faculty, staff, student staff and alumni participating today (Oct. 12) in the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay.

They are:

* Pam Mow, leader in Gold Star Mothers and administrative assistant to the head of the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology.

* Terri Smith-Wright, 18-year volunteer for the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society and assistant director of capital projects for University Residences.

* Thomas Howell, Vietnam veteran and continuing lecturer in the Department of Statistics.

* Betty Nelson, former dean of students and Disability Resource Center founder.

* Geri Denger, president of Purdue Student Government.

* President Mitch Daniels.

* Andrew Zeller, president of Purdue Graduate Student Government.

* Dustin Weisner of the Purdue Student Veteran Association.

* Astronaut David Wolf.

* Nancy Cross, senior associate athletics director for development and sports.

* Sharon Versyp, women's basketball coach.

* Cathy Wright-Eger, leadership advisor in the Student Services area of Intercollegiate Athletics.

* Former Purdue quarterback Mark Herrmann.

* Former Purdue wide receiver Bart Burrell.

* Former Purdue running back Leroy Keyes.

* Former track standout Joshua Hembrough.

* Purdue student Sheriff Almakki.

* Purdue student Brianne Read.

* Aaron Madrid, university bicycle operations coordinator.

* Tom Bradt, volunteer firefighter and research engineer at Bowen lab.

The route

Torchbearers are expected to travel around 10:30 a.m. through a portion of North Grant Street starting just south of Northwestern Avenue. The route through campus is estimated to take 75 minutes.

After turning west from North Grant Street onto State Street, the torch relay will follow this route:

* West to State Street and Memorial Mall Drive.

* North on Memorial Mall Drive, around Memorial Mall to State Street.

* West on State Street to University Street.

* North on University Street to John R. Wooden Drive.

* North on John R. Wooden Drive around Ross-Ade Stadium to Steven C. Beering Drive.

* South on Steven C. Beering Drive to Stadium Avenue.

* West on Stadium Avenue to North Martin Jischke Drive.

* South on North Martin Jischke Drive to State Street.

* West on State Street across U.S. 52 to Newman Road and County Road 200 West around Zucrow Laboratories.
