Purdue Libraries extending hours, offering stress relief activities Dec. 4-17

Purdue University Libraries will extend hours at four facilities and offer activities at the John W. Hicks Undergraduate Library to help students prepare for final exams, which will be given Dec. 12-17.

The Siegesmund Engineering; Hicks Undergraduate; Humanities, Social Science and Education; and Roland G. Parrish libraries will extend hours of operation as follows:

* Siegesmund Engineering -- Beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 4) through 5 p.m. Dec. 17, the library is open 24 hours.

* Hicks Undergraduate Library -- Beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 4) through 5 p.m. Dec. 17, the library is open 24 hours.

* HSSE Library -- The library will be open 1 p.m. to midnight on Sunday (Dec. 4); 7 a.m. to midnight from Monday through Friday (Dec. 5-9); 11 a.m. to midnight on Dec. 10; 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. Dec. 11; 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday (Dec. 12-15); 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 16; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17.

* Roland G. Parrish Library -- Beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 4) through midnight on Friday (Dec. 9), the library is open 24 hours. On Dec. 10, the library is open 10:30 a.m. to midnight. Beginning at 11 a.m. Dec. 11 through midnight on Dec. 16, it will be open 24 hours. On Dec. 17 it will be open 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

During extended hours, Libraries staff will be on site to assist students and refreshments will be provided.

All other libraries will maintain regular hours. 

To help students relieve the stress of dead week and finals week, special activities will take place in the common area of Hicks Undergraduate Library beginning Tuesday (Dec. 6).

These include:

* Tuesday (Dec. 6), 6:30-8 p.m. Popcorn/Craft Night. Students will have the opportunity to snack on popcorn while they create yarn snowballs and snow people.

* Wednesday (Dec. 7.), 6-8 p.m. Chair Massages. Massage therapists from Purdue's Division of Recreational Sports will offer brief chair massages.

* Thursday (Dec. 8.), 6:45-7:45 p.m. Caring Paws. Volunteers will bring their therapy animals to create a relaxing environment for students to de-stress.

* Friday (Dec. 9), 3-4 p.m. Fabulous Friday with the LGBTQ Center. Hicks Library is partnering with the LGBTQ Center to provide students the opportunity to create holiday ornaments.

* Dec. 12, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Therapy Dogs International. Volunteers will bring their therapy dogs to create a relaxing environment for students to de-stress.

* Dec. 13, 6-7 p.m. Chair Massages.  Massage therapists from Purdue's Division of Recreational Sports will offer quick chair massages.

* Dec. 14, 6:45-7:45 p.m. Caring Paws. Volunteers will bring their therapy animals to create a relaxing environment for students to de-stress.

* Dec. 15, 6:30-8 p.m. Popcorn/Craft Night. Students will have the opportunity to snack on popcorn while they create stress balls.

In addition to these events, Hicks Library will have art relaxation stations, bubble wrap, a Lego table and puzzles located around the library.
