Global Security and Defense Innovation Symposium to be livestreamed Thursday

On Thursday (Dec. 1), Discovery Park will host the "Global Security and Defense Innovation Symposium: Exploring the Role of Universities in Meeting Current and Future National Security Imperatives" at Purdue's Ross-Ade Stadium. Although the event is at capacity, the symposium will be livestreamed and those interested can tune in to the keynote addresses and panels.

The livestreaming will begin at 8 a.m. and can be accessed at www.kaltura.com/tiny/s1o04.

President Mitch Daniels and Tomás Díaz de la Rubia, Discovery Park executive director, will offer opening remarks.

Keynote addresses will be given by:

* Stephen Welby, assistant secretary of defense for research and engineering, U.S. Department of Defense.

* Phil Burkholder, president, Defense Aerospace, Rolls-Royce North America.

* Victor Reis, senior advisor, U.S. Department of Energy.

* Gen. Robin Rand, commander, Air Force Global Strike Command, Barksdale Air Force Base.

* Gen. Larry Welch, former chief of staff, U.S. Air Force, and president emeritus, Institute for Defense Analysis.

* Mia Bloom, professor of communication, Georgia State University.

* Eugene Spafford, professor, Department of Computer Science, Purdue; founder and executive director emeritus, Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security.

Panel topics include:

* Rising and Declining States: Russia, China, Iran and North Korea.

* Nuclear Deterrence and Non-Proliferation.

* New Thinking on the “Third Offset.”

* Global Terrorism and Cybersecurity.
