Design phase of Business Process Reengineering transformation projects kicks off

As Business Process Reengineering moves forward, the design phase of the transformation projects kicked off on Nov. 30 with a general orientation for subject matter experts identified to participate in upcoming design phase workshops. During the orientation, the transformation goals and vision were outlined, the core teams were introduced and the design phase was introduced and explained.

The design phase, also known as “blueprint,” consists of a multitude of workshops focused on gathering requirements, designing processes and solidifying the scope. Expertise from the Purdue community along with the projects’ consultant partners work together to assemble this needed information. The result of the design phase is the creation of decisions and processes that will be used to build the processes in a prototype or testing system.

During the orientation, Tim Werth, Business Process Reengineering director, encouraged attendees to evaluate, challenge and communicate business requirements throughout the design phase.

Bill Sullivan, Purdue treasurer and chief financial officer, as well as an executive sponsor of the projects, spoke to attendees about the opportunities that will result from the transformation projects, reiterated his passion for the projects and emphasized to attendees that their contributions and engagement are critical to the success of the projects.

Attendees also participated in breakout sessions on the three specific projects -- Human Capital Management, General Ledger (Finance) and Enterprise Asset Management.
