Showcases, training labs will highlight Student Reporting changes

A series of showcases and training labs will cap a six-month effort to improve and reorganize Purdue's student reporting processes within the Cognos workspace.

Significant improvements include folder renaming, relocation, and reorganization; adoption and establishment of standard naming conventions; and the inclusion of detailed report descriptions that will assist report authors and consumers in navigating to the most suitable report. A governance committee consisting of representatives across the Purdue Cognos community will provide oversight of newly established standard content criteria, the report review and archival process, and communicating training sessions and report documentation. These enhancements should significantly reduce the need for individuals to create ad hoc reports and should improve efficiency and consistency for report consumers.

During the past six months, the Student Reporting Project team assessed the validated student reports for consolidation, reorganization and conversion into a new standard format. Executive sponsors of the project were Brent Drake, chief data officer; Pam Horne, vice provost for enrollment management; and Aaron Walz, director of the Business Intelligence Competency Center.

As a capstone of the project, showcases will be held for all report authors or consumers to learn how the folder structure has changed, discover where old reports have been relocated, discuss ongoing processes, and get answers to questions or concerns. Showcases are scheduled for:

* Sept. 29 (Th) -- 9-10 a.m. Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142.

* Oct. 6 (Th) -- 2-3 p.m. Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142.

Please register for only one showcase as the same information will be presented at each event.
