Purdue celebrates Olympic ties as the Games begin Friday

Seven Purdue students and alumni and one Purdue coach will be participating in the 2016 Olympic Games starting Friday (Aug. 5) in Rio de Janeiro.

Those competing, including sport, country and Purdue tie, are:

* David Boudia, diving, U.S., alumnus.

* Steele Johnson, diving, U.S., student.

* Amanda Elmore, rowing, U.S., alumna.

* Kara (Patterson) Winger, javelin, U.S., alumna.

* Jinq En Phee, swimming, Malaysia, incoming freshman.

* Paula Reto, golf, South Africa, alumna.

* Carmiesha Cox, sprinter, Bahamas, student.

Adam Soldati, Purdue's diving coach, is the assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic Diving Team.
