Next steps outlined for teams entering MacArthur grant competition

Purdue is continuing system-wide assistance to teams preparing proposals for the MacArthur Foundation's offer of $100 million as a single grant to solve a critical world problem. To maximize and coordinate Purdue's efforts, a schedule of steps for the next 10 weeks will provide timely help.

The competition is called 100&Change. Leadership in this process at Purdue is in the hands of Tomás Diaz de la Rubia, chief scientist and executive director of Discovery Park, and S. Laurel Weldon, director of the Purdue Policy Research Institute and Distinguished Professor of Political Science.

NEXT STEPS

A little help along the way: A team leader may set a meeting with Weldon and Ed Morrison, regional economic development manager in the Office of Engagement on the West Lafayette campus, for feedback and guidance. To do this, the team leader must submit a two-page summary by Aug. 5 and schedule a time by contacting Krista Kelley of PPRI at kokelley@purdue.edu. Available meeting times are:
* Aug. 8, 12 and 15: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
* Aug. 11: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Video pitch coaching: Each proposal must include a 90-second video, so this is a way to strengthen the video. Bob Sadler, an independent consultant with 20-plus years of experience in nonprofit communications, will provide multiple offerings of this session on Aug. 29, 30 and 31. Times are TBA.

Registration deadline: Teams must register with MacArthur by Sept. 2.

Simulated MacArthur panel: This is an internal mock panel formed to give feedback to assist with revisions to proposals and to identify finalists for the internal Purdue endorsement process. Materials (see below) are due Sept. 2 and should be sent to kokelley@purdue.edu. Feedback will be provided to teams by Sept. 14.

Proposal deadline: Teams must submit proposals to MacArthur by Oct. 3.
