MacArthur proposal process supplies details for video coaching sessions

Video coaching sessions for teams preparing proposals for the MacArthur Foundation's $100 million grant offer will be held Aug. 29-31. The plan for these sessions was announced as part of Purdue's step-by-step process for this effort, since MacArthur's 100&Change rules for proposals require a 90-second video pitch.

The coaching will be provided by Bob Sadler, an independent consultant with 20-plus years of experience in nonprofit communications. To use this opportunity, at least one team representative must attend the general session from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 29. Register here for the general session. Workshop materials will be provided after registration.

Participants in the general session are invited to take advantage also of a 90-minute one-on-one coaching session. Ten slots are available, first-come, first-served, on Aug. 29-31. Register here for a one-on-one session, noting the instructions given. Any number of team members may attend. The location information will be provided upon registration.

Leadership in this process at Purdue is in the hands of Tomás Diaz de la Rubia, chief scientist and executive director of Discovery Park, and S. Laurel Weldon, director of the Purdue Policy Research Institute and Distinguished Professor of Political Science. For procedural questions, contact Krista Kelley of PPRI at kokelley@purdue.edu.

Timeline for teams (after video coaching)

* Registration deadline: Teams must register with MacArthur by Sept. 2.

* Simulated MacArthur panel: This is an internal mock panel formed to give feedback to assist with revisions to proposals and to identify finalists for the internal Purdue endorsement process. Materials are due Sept. 2 and should be sent to kokelley@purdue.edu. Feedback will be provided to teams by Sept. 14. For a list of materials for this step, click here and scroll down. Note that participation is required for those seeking endorsement.

* Proposal deadline: Teams must submit proposals to MacArthur by Oct. 3.
