Lectures in Ethics, Policy, and Science series announces fall speakers

The Purdue Lectures in Ethics, Policy, and Science will host three expert speakers this fall. The series, now in its 11th year, explores questions of bioethics -- how to treat living beings -- and related policy and science issues.

Each lecture on the fall schedule is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121, as follows:

* Sept. 15 (Th): Gary Varner, professor of philosophy, Texas A&M University. Topic: Ethics and animal companions.

* Oct. 19 (W): Ron Eglash, professor of science and technology studies, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; cyberneticist; and author in ethnomathematics. Topic: Generative justice.

* Nov. 16 (W): Dr. Mary Ott, associate professor of pediatrics, Indiana University School of Medicine. Topic: Ethics of research involving adolescents.

The site at www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/bioethics contains more about the series. Plans for Spring 2017 speakers are being completed, and information about all of this year's speakers will be added as it becomes possible.
