Committee on Institutional Cooperation renamed Big Ten Academic Alliance

Big Ten Academic Alliance

The Committee on Institutional Cooperation is now the Big Ten Academic Alliance.

The alliance is the preeminent model for effective collaboration among research universities. The name change directly and succinctly explains what the program does and eliminates confusion with other CICs, such as the Council for Independent Colleges, according to a Big Ten Academic Alliance press release. It also conveys the organization's vision and position as the long-standing academic balance to the Big Ten Conference.

Since 1958, universities in the Big Ten Academic Alliance have collaborated to save money, build powerful academic and research connections and increase the opportunities for students and faculty. As programs and initiatives increased in size and scope, it became evident that the words "committee on institutional cooperation" did not accurately reflect the work being done. It also became difficult to engage with important stakeholders such as policymakers, government officials and others outside higher education.
