Upcoming workshop to give firsthand look at childhood disability

Purdue Human Resources will host a family-friendly workshop to share personal experiences of childhood disability -- including a parent's perspective -- from noon to 1 p.m. Friday (June 3) in Stewart Center, Room 311.

The "Children with Disabilities: A Child's Perspective" workshop will enlighten participants about disabilities through the eyes of a child with a disability. The presenter, Roann Riggins-Keller from the College of Health and Human Sciences, will be joined by her daughter, Bailey, and both will share personal experiences, including the importance of being supportive and maintaining relationships with those affected by disability or disease, as well as focusing on a positive perspective.

Registration is available online and is due Thursday (June 2). Limited seats are available; however, as a response to feedback, Human Resources is pleased to make this and future presentations available in WebEx. Those attending via WebEx should enter "familyfriendly" if prompted for a password when joining the meeting.

The family workshops are open to faculty, staff, students and spouses/same-sex domestic partners. Those attending are encouraged to bring lunch to eat while listening to the presentation. Time for asking questions and networking with other parents and caregivers will be offered.
