Summer Stay Scholars program encourages students to take summer classes

The Purdue Summer Stay Scholars program encourages students to stay on campus during the summer to work on finishing their degree on time or even early.

The program offers a $2,500-$7,700 scholarship (depending on residency status) to cover the cost of six to nine credit hours during summer terms. It also includes opportunities for students to receive hands-on experience through a 140-hour internship or research project.

Students who receive the scholarship must have undergraduate status and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. They also must have been enrolled at Purdue in Spring 2015 or earlier and never have taken a summer on-campus course before at Purdue.

The scholarship is meant to incentivize students who have had the opportunity to stay and take classes during the summer, but chose not to.

The inaugural group of students of the 2016 Summer Stay Scholars includes a diverse representation of backgrounds and majors and will begin their classes and research or internship opportunities in the coming weeks.
