Purdue contributions noted in Indiana bicentennial history series

The Indiana Bicentennial Commission is highlighting Purdue contributions through its "On This Day" series, which covers events that happened in Indiana history. Most recently, the series focused on WBAA, Purdue's public radio station.

On April 5, 1922, a broadcast license was granted to Purdue for the WBAA radio station, the oldest continuously operating radio station in Indiana. The first message broadcasted under the new WBAA call letters was a message from the secretary of agriculture on Arbor Day.

Today, WBAA broadcasts news, classical and jazz on AM, FM, FMHD2, online at http://wbaa.org and on mobile devices with the WBAA app. WBAA is a listener-supported service of Purdue University and an NPR member station. WBAA's spring member drive begins today (April 8) and runs through April 15. Contributions can be made by calling 765-496-1999 or online at http://wbaa.org.

The Indiana Bicentennial Commission's "On This Day" posts as well as additional information about the bicentennial celebration can be found on Facebook and Twitter
