Earth Day activities scheduled for next week

Several activities and events are planned for the Purdue West Lafayette campus next week to celebrate Earth Day. All events are free of charge, though some may require pre-registration.

Monday (April 18)

An interactive tent will be hosted by Living Essentials, LLC with information regarding Billions in Change from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Academy Park.

Manoj Bhargava, entrepreneur, philanthropist and creator of Billions in Change, will be delivering a keynote lecture titled "Assumptions and Outcomes: The Good, Bad, and Ugly" at 6 p.m. in Stewart Center, Fowler Hall. Wednesday (April 20)

Students are invited to participate in Bike to Class Day and visit informational booths about bicycling safety and the Zagster bike share program from noon to 3 p.m. Booths will be located at the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall and southwest corner of Third Street and Martin Jischke Drive (near Meredith Hall). Students arriving at the booths on a bicycle will receive additional incentives such as food and an opportunity to enter to win prizes.

April 22

A Tree Campus USA celebration will begin with a brief presentation during which Purdue will receive its seventh consecutive Tree Campus USA award. Volunteers will then receive instruction on how to plant a tree. This event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon between the Krannert Building and Young Hall. Pre-registration is required online at https://purdue.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3PhjeXMmVMy7Fvn, and all registered volunteers in attendance will receive a free lunch.

A reception celebrating the LEED Gold certification recently awarded to the Krach Leadership Center and Third Street Suites will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at Krach. A "make and take" sustainability craft will be available while supplies last.

Information about Earth Week events is available on the University Sustainability website.
