United Way offering free tax preparation for qualifying families

Tax season is in full swing, and United Way of Greater Lafayette wants to help families with a household income less than $54,000 a year prepare their taxes for free.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is open to everyone in the eligible income range. Some appointment sessions will be on Purdue's campus, and those are at 4-8 p.m. on Feb. 9, 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25 in McCutcheon Residence Hall, Room C217.

To schedule an appointment, call or text 765-421-6163, visit www.uwlafayette.org/vita or email Jennifer Million at jmillion@uw.lafayette.in.us.

The VITA volunteers are IRS-trained and -certified to provide basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

Those using the service need to bring a Social Security card or copy for themselves, a spouse and any dependents; photo ID; all tax documents; bank routing and account number for a direct deposit refund; and last year's tax return, if applicable.

Visit www.uwlafayette.org/vita for more information.
