Center for Healthy Living bringing workshops on site to departments

The Center for Healthy Living (CHL) offers a variety of resources for employees to improve their health and overall wellness, and can bring those resources directly to departments and areas on the West Lafayette campus. The team of providers at the Center for Healthy Living realizes it's not always possible for an employee to travel across campus to attend a workshop or training.

According to Gallup data, employees spend nearly 30 percent of an average week at work. Because so much time is being spent in the workplace, it is even more important to promote health and wellness in the office.

To allow all employees an opportunity to take advantage of the workshops available, CHL guest speakers can come directly to a department meeting, retreat or lunch and provide a workshop or training at no cost.

Topics may include but are not limited to nutrition, weight control, co-worker relationships, stress relief and physical activity. Here is a sampling of ongoing presentations given by the registered nurse health coaches, registered dietitian, pharmacist and employee assistance program counselors:

* Clean eating 101

* Coping with Grief

* Introduction to Services at the Center for Healthy Living

* Introduction to Health Coaching

* Know your Pharmacist

* Nutrition for the Long Run

* Physical Activity for Optimal Health

* Stress and Work/Life Balance, with a meditation exercise

* Workplace Fitness and Stretching

The center’s team may also provide a workshop series in the areas of weight management, tobacco cessation and other topics for groups of 10 participants or more. For more information or to schedule an on-site training, call the Center for Healthy Living at 49-45505.

The Center for Healthy Living is also available to benefits-eligible faculty and staff and their dependents covered on a Purdue health plan for other services including lab work, sick visits, annual physicals and wellness checks. For more information on services offered at the center, please visit the center online.

The center is open 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Lab hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For assistance after hours or on weekends, contact the Anthem nurse line at 888-279-5449 for assistance.
