Linn receives Martin Award for her hard work and consistency

December 21, 2015

Carlene Linn, secretary for the associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Veterinary Medicine, has received the 2015 Eudoxia Girard Martin Memorial Staff Recognition Award.

Linn has been a Purdue employee for 23 years and because of this people seek advice from her first. She consistently works hard at her job and goes above and beyond the expectations.  Linn received the award Dec. 10 during the Clerical and Service Staff Recognition Luncheon.

S. Kathleen Salisbury, associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Veterinary Medicine, wrote in her nomination letter that Linn is an excellent role model to those around her and is always cheerful, helpful and caring regardless of how she may feel.

"Carlene adds a personal touch to her interactions with others by expressing interest in the other person and showing that she cares," Salisbury wrote.

The Martin Award is named in honor of Eudoxia Girard Martin, who lived in Lafayette from 1920 to 1977 and was executive secretary to the dean of engineering at Purdue for several years.

The award is intended for fifth-level secretaries or administrative assistants with five years of continuous service on the West Lafayette campus. It is awarded to staff who accomplish their duties with a special caring and helpfulness to students, faculty and staff. It consists of a medallion, a framed description of the life of Martin and a $1,000 honorarium.
