Some may prefer life in the library or lab, but Shakespeare's "As You Like It," being performed by Purdue Theatre, makes a good case for the forest over the intrigue of the castle. With imagination and some knowledge, there's usually an alternative, sometimes a surprising one. Don't Miss It!

NOVEMBER 16-22

Sports week. Basketball is fully into its season, but the sports scene isn't nothing but net.
* Women's basketball plays at home twice this week, both at 7 p.m.: Monday vs. Jacksonville State, and Thursday vs. Illinois-Chicago (aka UIC). $. Women's basketball 
* Men's basketball will heat up the hardwood at 7 p.m. Wednesday vs. Incarnate Word (the Cardinals are from San Antonio). $. Men's basketball
* Swimming and diving (men and women). It's the three-day Purdue Invitational. And you're invited. Listed as "all day" Friday-Sunday. Men  |  Women
* Volleyball (women's). The Boilers return from a three-match road trip to meet Minnesota at 7 p.m. Saturday. Volleyball

Purdue Theatre will continues its production of Shakespeare's "As You Like It," through Nov. 22. It's a romp in the forest. You will like it. Evening shows at 7:30 p.m.; matinees at 2:30 p.m. Pao Hall, Nancy T. Hansen Theatre. Details

NOVEMBER 19

The Writers Harvest benefit reading presents creative works by Purdue faculty and graduate students, and it gathers donations for Food Finders Food Bank. Requested donations for admission: five non-perishable food items. 7:30 p.m. Wells Center, 638 North St., Lafayette. Details

NOVEMBER 20

The Purdue Jazz Jam presents "The Main Stem" with all of Purdue's jazz bands bringing music from famed jazz streets. 8 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Details

Sports week. Football and volleyball close their regular seasons at home.

Raising the PMU Christmas tree

Purdue's Christmas tree arrives at Purdue Memorial Union's Great Hall around 12:30 p.m. for a two-week stay, also setting off a week of Holidays at the Union.

The Presidential Lecture Series will welcome news columnist and author George Will for conversation and a Q&A period with President Mitch Daniels. 6:30-7:30 p.m. STEW, Fowler Hall. Details

DECEMBER 11-12
