Child Wellness Day aims to help grad students' kids

Registration has opened for Purdue graduate students with children to take part Oct. 23 in Child Wellness Day, led by the School of Nursing and Purdue Graduate Student Government. The children can receive medical exams and shots, and their parents can learn health and nutrition facts,

Child Wellness Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nursing Center for Family Health in Lyles-Porter Hall. Students in several Purdue programs will provide services at no cost:

* Pediatric nurse practitioner students will provide physical examinations.

* Undergraduate and graduate nursing students will assist staff from the Tippecanoe Health Department with lead and hemoglobin screenings as well as immunizations.

* Nutrition science students will offer nutritional counseling and education.

* Hearing screenings will be available for school-age children.

* Pharmacy students will have pediatric medication information on hand for parents.

Parents should bring their child's insurance card, if any, and vaccination record. Parents can register their children for Child Wellness Day at https://www2.itap.purdue.edu/bs/WorkLife. The link may be visible only to eligible users once they log in.

Parking is available all day in the Harrison Street Parking Garage adjacent to Lyles-Porter Hall, and the need for an "A" permit has been waived for the day. Also, a van will provide a ride from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with pickup at PVCC and Lyles-Porter Hall each half-hour. Users will need to provide car seats. CityBus (routes 19 and 27) also is available.
