Upcoming workshop to focus on emotional health in children

August 24, 2015

Human Resources will host a family-friendly workshop to discuss helping children manage emotions from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 26) in Stewart Center, Room 204. Registration is due Tuesday (Aug. 25). Limited seats are available.

The "Morning Madness: Recognizing Emotions" workshop is an opportunity for anyone raising or supporting someone in raising a child to explore the topic of valuing children's feelings. Children who learn ways to understand and handle their feelings are more likely to grow up happy, healthy and well-adjusted. Attendees will learn the impact of teaching kids to understand and manage their feelings, how emotional development affects physical and mental health and that responding to children's emotions with patience, caring and teaching will result in the best outcome. The workshop, presented by Kathy Murray from Purdue Extension, will provide strategies to teach children about the emotions they experience through the day and why paying attention to them is important.

The family workshops are open to faculty, staff, students and spouses/same-sex domestic partners. Those attending are encouraged to bring lunch to eat while listening to the presentation. Time for asking questions and networking with other parents and caregivers will be offered.

Individuals with a Purdue career account can register online for this workshop, while those without a career account can email familyfriendly@purdue.edu to register. Additional information on local family-friendly happenings is available on the Family Friendly Purdue Facebook page
