Teaching Academy to honor faculty, grad student

The Purdue University Teaching Academy will recognize eight faculty members and one graduate teaching assistant for outstanding and scholarly teaching in graduate, undergraduate, or engagement programs in ceremonies Sept. 29. Candidates were identified by their individual department or college/school based upon evidence of excellence in teaching, innovation in teaching methodology, teaching-related service, and scholarship in teaching and learning. 

In addition to the five Murphy Award recipients who are automatically inducted into the Teaching Academy, three new Fellows from the University faculty, and one Associate member from graduate teaching assistants, instructors or other teaching staff, were selected from the pool of nominees.

The new Teaching Academy Fellows are:

* Roy Dejoie, Management, Krannert School of Management.
* Mark Daniel Ward, Statistics, College of Science.
* Mike Yough, Educational Studies, College of Education.

The new Teaching Academy Associate is:

* Nusta Carranza Ko, Political Science, College of Liberal Arts.

The 2015 Murphy Award recipients who will be honored as Teaching Academy Fellows are:

* Carol Cunningham-Sigman, Visual & Performing Arts, College of Liberal Arts.
* Larry DeBoer, Agricultural Economics, College of Agriculture.
* Karen Foli, School of Nursing, College of Health and Human Sciences.
* Matthew Ohland, Engineering Education, College of Engineering.
* Kimberly Plake, Pharmacy Practice, College of Pharmacy.

The Teaching Academy Induction Ceremony will be held Sept. 29 in the Purdue Memorial Union North Ballroom with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the ceremony at 7 p.m.  All members of the Purdue community are welcome to attend. 

The Teaching Academy’s mission is to enhance and strengthen the quality of teaching and learning at the University.
