Reminder: University policy on operating 12- and 15-passenger vans

September 3, 2015

Risk Management and Transportation Service would like to remind students and staff of University policy pertaining to operating 12- and 15-passenger vans. The Use of Vehicles for University Business policy allows the use of such vans, but requires that the number of passengers be limited to eight people, including the driver.

Along with the passenger limitation, the policy requires that drivers of these vans complete Risk Management's online Passenger Van Training program. Any students or volunteers who will be operating these vans must also be approved in advance by Risk Management.

Information about 12- and 15-passenger vans can be found under Appendix A, Section 3, of the policy. Procedures related to seeking approval for student drivers can be found under Section 1.3.

Drivers of University vehicles should familiarize themselves with this policy, meet the stated requirements, and obtain the proper training and/or certification.

Information concerning Use of Vehicles for University Business can be found on Risk Management’s Vehicle Use Info Web page at www.purdue.edu/business/risk_mgmt/Vehicle_Use_Info/index.html.

Questions related to use of vehicles should be directed to Risk Management at drivesafe@purdue.edu.
