Purdue to launch study of WL campus health resources

August 26, 2015

Purdue University Human Resources and Student Life have joined together to implement a comprehensive review of health resources on the West Lafayette campus.

The study's goals are to improve the health of all members of the campus community and to make campus health care offerings more efficient, effective and user-friendly for students, faculty and staff.

"We believe this review is in the best interest of the entire campus community and is responsive to stated student and employee suggestions and concerns regarding accessibility and quality of care and services on our campus," said Beth McCuskey, vice provost for student life. "Our intent is to work to ensure that our students, faculty and staff have broad service offerings, robust care and services, and an effective referral network."

Trent Klingerman, vice president for human resources, said Purdue has enlisted consultant LHD Benefit Advisors to conduct the study of health care services and offerings as well as the facilities currently available to students and benefits-eligible faculty, staff and dependents. LHD will conduct site visits at Purdue's Center for Healthy Living (CHL), the on-site health care facility for benefits-eligible faculty and staff and their dependents, and the Purdue University Student Health Center (PUSH), the campus facility for students.

Consultants will meet with focus groups; survey students, faculty and staff; and hold regular meetings with various constituent groups across campus. The review also will include data analysis and individual staff and user feedback. Eva Nodine, director of benefits, and PUSH director Gail Walenga will work directly with the consulting team on the review.

A website is being developed to keep the campus community informed about the project's progress, and campus community members can have questions about the project answered by emailing healthyboiler@purdue.edu.

The review team is expected to provide its assessment to Purdue by March, after which the University will determine the scope of any changes or steps moving forward.
