In the coming weeks, the amount of construction on and around the West Lafayette campus will increase, and students, faculty, staff and visitors should be cautious in areas where work is taking place.

Current construction information is and will continue to be available on the Physical Facilities Construction Notices and Maps Web page at www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/constructionmap.

The following information is a synopsis of the projects taking place this summer that will alter travel around campus, but it is not all inclusive. There will also be an abundance of other projects, such as masonry, landscaping and maintenance activities.

Thomas S. and Harvey D. Wilmeth Active Learning Center

The construction of the Wilmeth Active Learning Center, located on the former site of the retired Heat and Power North Plant (HPN) and the Engineering Administration Building (ENAD), will continue this summer. There will be an increase in construction traffic on Memorial Mall Drive and on the portion of Third Street east of University Street, so pedestrians should be cautious in the area and obey all posted signs. Construction of the Active Learning Center is expected to be complete in summer 2017.

College of Engineering Strategic Growth - Grissom Hall

The transformation of Grissom Hall, part of the College of Engineering Strategic Growth project, will be wrapping up this August, but until then, work on the project will continue.

Honors College and Residences

Work on the new Honors College and Residences facility will continue at the southwest corner of Russell and Third streets. The following traffic pattern changes will be in place over the course of the summer:

* Third Street will be closed between Martin Jischke Drive and Russell Street; however access to the Windsor Halls parking lot will still be allowed.

* The westernmost lane of traffic on Russell Street will be closed between First and Fourth streets.

* Second Street will be closed west of Russell Street (with the exception of graduation weekend and move-out, during which Second Street will be open).

* The intersection of First Street and Russell Street will become an all-way stop.

* The sidewalk along the west side of Russell Street will be closed between First and Third streets.

Construction is expected to be complete for fall 2016.

Oval Drive and North Martin Jischke Drive renovation

Oval Drive and the section of North Martin Jischke Drive south of Stadium Avenue and north of the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center access road will be closed this summer for repairs.

While Oval Drive is closed, Memorial Mall Drive will remain open to allow access to the parking lots north of Stewart Center and for construction traffic associated with the Wilmeth Active Learning Center. During this closure, CityBus pickup and drop-off locations on Oval Drive and Memorial Mall Drive will be shifted to State Street.

Both renovations are expected to be complete in mid-July.

Infrastructure updates near Hampton Hall, the Physics Building and Forney Hall

A variety of maintenance and infrastructure updates will be taking place around Hampton Hall, the Physics Building and Forney Hall. Work in the area is underway and will continue to affect sidewalks, access roads and bicycle routes through late July.

Northwestern Avenue and Cherry Lane improvements

The City of West Lafayette will continue its project to improve Northwestern Avenue and Cherry Lane, resulting in lane restrictions throughout the course of the summer. This work should be complete in mid-August.

Pedestrians and motorists should be cautious in the areas surrounding these projects as construction crews and traffic will be active. Check the Construction Notices and Maps Web page (www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/constructionmap) regularly to obtain the most recent travel-related information.
