Protein science symposium call for abstracts through Sunday

March 11, 2015

A team of Purdue graduate students led by Carol Post, professor of medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology, is collecting abstracts for a mini-symposium on integrating structure, function and interactions of the protein universe with a Sunday (March 15) deadline.

The symposium, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Protein Galaxy,” will be May 13-14 at Purdue. Professor Anthony Kossiakoff, the Otho S.A. Sprague Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chicago, will give the keynote presentation. Seven other researchers from varying Purdue departments also will present during the two-day conference:

* Jason Lanman, assistant professor, biological sciences

* Jeremy Lohman, assistant professor, biochemistry

* Angeline Lyon, assistant professor, chemistry

* Andrew Mugler, assistant professor, physics

* Nicholas Noinaj, assistant professor, biological sciences

* Chiwook Park, associate professor, medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology

* Nic Steussy, research associate, biological sciences

The aforementioned Purdue faculty and staff will speak about protein-based research through five topics: disorder and conformational plasticity in macromolecules; biophysical methods and emerging techniques; disease, pathogenesis and therapeutics; biosynthesis and catalysis; and macromolecular complexes and assemblies.

The symposium is meant to provide a networking opportunity for faculty members, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students and undergraduate students who share an interest in protein science, structural biology and biophysics.

Organizers are accepting abstracts for poster and oral presentations. Prizes will be given for best presentations.

The full schedule for the two-day event can be viewed here. It is free to attend, but registration is required. Those interested can register online through April 15.
