'Phishing' scams now targeting Anthem members

February 9, 2015

Anthem Inc., Purdue's medical plan administrator, is now warning members of a "phishing" scam. This comes a day after news broke of the cyberattack on Anthem.

The press release was issued early Friday (Feb. 6) afternoon regarding email scam campaigns that are attempting to collect personal information from Anthem members.  All employees, whether they are enrolled in Anthem benefits or not, should be aware of the email scam campaigns. These emails are not from Anthem so do not click on links, reply, supply any information or open any attachments in these emails that are designed to appear as if they are from Anthem.

Anthem also is not calling members regarding the cyberattack and is not asking for personal information such as credit card information or social security numbers over the phone. This outreach, like the email phishing scams, is being conducted by scam artists in an attempt to get consumers to sharing their personal data.

Anthem will contact current and former members via mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service about the cyberattack with specific information on how to enroll in credit monitoring. Affected members will receive free credit monitoring and ID protection services.
