Center for Healthy Living to kick off 2015 wellness programming with tobacco cessation

January 8, 2015

Purdue's Center for Healthy Living has announced its first no-cost wellness program for 2015. The tobacco cessation program will meet noon-12:50 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 14 through Feb. 18 at the center.

This comprehensive education and self-management program will teach participants about understanding tobacco, readiness to quit, quitting methods, nutrition, physical activity, stress and staying tobacco-free. Special focus will be placed on changing behavior, overcoming withdrawal and cravings, coping with stress, managing weight and preventing relapses.

The primary objective is to educate participants and to provide them with tools and resources to stop their tobacco use so they can stay healthy and prevent tobacco-use-related complications.

CHL programs are for benefits-eligible faculty and staff and for spouses/same-sex domestic partners covered on a Purdue medical plan.

Participants in the tobacco cessation program must self-identify as being a tobacco user by self-referral into the program or by Center for Healthy Living provider referral. Register for the tobacco cessation program by Monday (Jan. 12) by calling 49-45239. Limited seats are available.

For more information on services offered at CHL, visit the center online. If completing the program for a tobacco premium waiver, the waiver is due by Feb. 28 to be applied for the April 1 waiver. For more information on the tobacco waiver, visit Purdue's Tobacco Cessation page.

The center is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Lab hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For assistance after hours or on weekends, contact the Anthem nurse line at 888-279-5449.
