Award-winning NPR journalist and Purdue graduate to join WBAA for spring member drive

March 4, 2015

WBAA, public radio from Purdue University, will host award-winning journalist and Purdue alumnus Scott Neuman during its spring member drive, which begins Friday (March 6). Neuman, who works for NPR as a digital news writer and editor, will join the WBAA staff on March 11 and 12.

Neuman has served internationally as an editor, reporter, correspondent and bureau chief for various news organizations, including NPR, the Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, United Press International, PRI and the Canadian Broadcasting System. Reporting from Pakistan immediately following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Neuman was part of the team that earned the Pulitzer Prize awarded to The Wall Street Journal for overall coverage of 9/11 and the aftermath. Neuman shared in several awards won by AP for coverage of the December 2004 Asian tsunami.

"Scott began his career at an NPR member station in Illinois and has a wealth of experience reporting from locations all over the world," says Mike Savage, general manager of WBAA. "He understands that funding journalists who capture the stories where they happen is an important reason public radio stations such as WBAA hold member drives throughout the year. Membership in WBAA not only funds local stories and programming, it helps us bring you news from journalists who are stationed throughout the world.

"We are thrilled Scott is returning to Purdue and partnering with us in support of our spring member drive. We know that his experience will inspire listeners to support WBAA as a vital part of the Greater Lafayette community."

The spring member drive will continue through March 13, and donations can be made online or by phone throughout the week.
