Request for applicants for Vice Provost for Student Life (Internal Search)

 


The Office of the Provost invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost for Student Life (VPSL).  This position is a 12-month, full-time administrative position reporting directly to the Provost.
 
The VPSL is responsible for advancing Purdue’s commitment to student success by fostering an environment of inclusiveness and support for the university’s diverse student body, enriching student learning, building and maintaining a strong sense of community, and promoting personal development and growth through engagement in the life of the university.
 
The VPSL will work in close collaboration with the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, and the Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions to integrate programs and initiatives for Student Academic Affairs to ensure the highest levels of student success. The VPSL will also make strategic decisions regarding personnel, budgets, facilities, programs, student leadership development, crisis and risk management, communication, and student advocacy.
 
Responsibilities of the position include fostering program initiatives and providing guidance related to these areas:  Arts, Culture and Ideas, Dean of Students, Leadership Development, Recreational Sports, Student Activities, Dining, Purdue Memorial Union, and University Residence/Residential Life.
 
The successful candidate for the VPSL must have: a) an earned PhD or terminal degree; b) 10 years or more of progressive leadership experience within higher education including senior leadership experience; c) experience applying best practices and addressing legal issues in higher education and student affairs; d) demonstrated ability to manage a large and complex organization; e) budgetary experience, including revenue generation, to drive organizational change; f) proven ability to create a climate responsive to student concerns; g) high-level experience planning and maintaining facilities to create environments supportive of student learning and success; h) successful and collaborative administrative experience at a high level; i) the highest level of integrity; and j) excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively listen to all points of view, and build consensus on initiatives and issues.
 
The VPSL search advisory committee will be chaired by Joan Fulton, Professor and Associate Department Head of Agricultural Economics.  Applications should include a
2-4-page letter addressing the applicant’s interest, relevant experience and qualifications, the names of three references, and a current résumé.
