Purdue named to national community service honor roll
December 12, 2014
Purdue has received federal recognition for its commitment to community service from the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
The honor roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support exemplary community service programs and raise visibility of effective practices in campus community partners. The honorees were announced Monday (Dec. 8).
Purdue's West Lafayette campus and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis were named to the honor roll with distinction in the General Community Service category. When combining service learning, volunteering and student teaching, Purdue students on the West Lafayette campus annually spend more than 1.3 million hours engaged in community service, says Mike Piggott, community relations director. The full honor roll for the General Community Service category can be found here.
IUPUI and Purdue North Central were named to the honor roll for Education Community Service. The full honor roll for that category can be found here.
The federal Corporation for National and Community Service administers the honor roll in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and several other organizations.
