Lewin named vice chancellor at University of North Texas System

Luis E. Lewin, Purdue vice president for human resources, will become associate vice chancellor for human resources at the University of North Texas System, effective Nov. 19.

Lewin will remain at Purdue through Nov. 14. Trent Klingerman, director of employee relations in Human Resources, will serve in an interim capacity during the search for Lewin's successor.

"Luis has done an outstanding job in managing the vast responsibilities that comprise human resources," says William E. Sullivan, treasurer and chief financial officer. "Our ability to recruit and retain the dedicated people that make up Purdue's workforce speaks highly to his ability to tackle the difficult issues that impact employees such as compensation and the ever-changing environment surrounding health care benefits. His leadership truly will be missed."

As associate vice chancellor, Lewin will be responsible for UNT's system-wide human resource operations and will provide strategic direction and counsel on effective human capital management to administrators within the UNT System administration, UNT, UNT Health Science Center and UNT at Dallas.

"My entire career has focused on human resources -- and the key word is human," Lewin says. "It's important to remember that employees and their families are the foundation for every decision we make. I've enjoyed my time at Purdue and my interactions that make this university so special."

Lewin became Purdue's vice president for human resources in 2010 after serving as the chief human resources officer at Ohio University in Athens from 2008 to 2010. From 1987 to 2008, Lewin held several human resource management positions at the Chicago-based Tribune Co., serving as senior vice president of corporate human resources from 2000 to 2008.

Lewin received his bachelor's degree in 1972 from Wilmington (Ohio) College in psychology secondary education and Spanish and earned a master's degree in 1974 in modern languages from Ohio University.
