Human Resources offering tips for National Save for Retirement Week

October 21, 2014

National Save for Retirement Week is a nationwide effort to raise public awareness about the importance of saving for retirement, and Human Resources encourages employees to reflect on personal retirement goals and determine whether they're on target to reach those goals. As part of this year's efforts, Human Resources will be providing tips to help faculty and staff increase their knowledge about retirement planning and take advantage of the services available to them through Purdue's retirement partner, Fidelity.

Today's tips:

* Are you making the most of your benefits? NetBenefits has a new smartphone app that gives you access to view your Fidelity workplace accounts anytime, anyplace, right on your smartphone. Download it from the App Store or Google Play Store, and you can monitor your account balances, investment selections, personal rate of return and more. You can also view the mobile site at www.netbenefits.com.

* What's a 403(b) voluntary savings plan? Simply put, a 403(b) is a type of retirement plan, and it makes sense to participate in it as soon as possible. Here's why:

-- The earlier you start saving, the more time your money has to grow.
-- Beyond providing a way to invest for retirement, 403(b)s may offer huge tax advantages.
-- Your retirement plan is a long-term personal plan for growing your savings.
