Faculty, staff asked to nominate community partners for award

Purdue will recognize a community partner with an award to be presented this winter.
The annual Exemplary Community Partner award, and a $1,000 cash prize, was created in 2012 to show the University's appreciation for local agencies that contribute to the growth of students by providing volunteer and educational opportunities, says Julie Griffith, vice president for public affairs.
Faculty students and staff are asked to nominate not-for-profit agencies, schools or governmental units in Greater Lafayette that have demonstrated excellence in creating and sustaining opportunities for engaging Purdue students in volunteerism or service-learning.
A nomination letter, not to exceed two pages, should include:
* Description of benefits to the organization and the people it serves derived from engaging Purdue students in the organization's work.
* Types of activities in which students engage and a description of how that engagement benefits the students' education.
The nomination also must include a written statement from a Purdue student explaining the impact that involvement with the agency has had on the student's life and education.
Nominations should be forwarded to Mike Piggott, community relations director, at piggott@purdue.edu by Oct. 31.
The initial Exemplary Community Partner award was presented to the Lafayette Crisis Center, and the Hanna Community Center was honored in 2013.
