Day added for free flu shots on campus

November 3, 2014

The Center for Healthy Living has added another day of free flu shots at the West Lafayette campus.

"We have a few hundred vaccinations available, and we want to make those easily accessible by holding another event on Nov. 7," says Millie Fenneman, practice administrator at the Center for Healthy Living.

Flu shots will be provided on a walk-in basis from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Stewart Center, Room 218 AB. This will be the final flu shot event hosted by the Center for Healthy Living this year.

All benefits-eligible Purdue faculty and staff -- including those who have opted out of the Purdue medical plans -- are eligible to attend this event and get a flu shot at no charge. Employees will need to bring their Purdue University ID (PUID) card or their Anthem medical plan ID card.

Spouses and same-sex domestic partners (SSDPs) are also eligible to attend and receive a free flu shot, if they are covered on a Purdue medical plan. Spouses and SSDPs must bring their Anthem medical plan ID card to the flu shot event.

Everyone covered on a Purdue medical plan -- adults and children alike -- has the option of obtaining a free flu shot through a community provider. Information is available at the Center for Healthy Living website.

Graduate staff and their spouses who are covered by United Healthcare Student Resource Insurance may go to the Purdue University Student Health Center (PUSH) for a flu shot. The cost of the vaccine is $25; however, PUSH will bill the insurance company with the expectation that this preventive service will be paid at 100 percent with no copay.

Employees who have questions about flu shot coverage may contact Human Resources at 49-42222 or hr@purdue.edu.
