2014 Martin Award winner dedicated to student success, customer service

December 18, 2014

Kristi Trimble, administrative assistant to the department head in Biochemistry, has received the 2014 Eudoxia Girard Martin Memorial Staff Recognition Award.

Trimble has been a Purdue employee for 30 years. During that time, she has dedicated herself to cheerfully assisting current and prospective faculty members and graduate students, among many other things, her nominators wrote. Trimble received the award during a Clerical and Service Staff Advisory Committee luncheon on Thursday (Dec. 11).

Clint Chapple, distinguished professor and head of the Department of Biochemistry, wrote in his nomination letter that Trimble goes above and beyond in many areas, including helping graduate students stay on track academically, and that she creates an organized, warm and welcoming environment during the department's annual graduate recruiting weekend. Trimble's work in this arena has resulted in record numbers of high-quality students.

"I can say without fear of contradiction that Kristi is the heart and soul of our department," Chapple wrote.

The Martin Award is named in honor of Eudoxia Girard Martin, who lived in Lafayette from 1920 to 1977 and was executive secretary to the dean of engineering at Purdue for several years.

The award is intended for fifth-level secretaries or administrative assistants with five years of continuous service on the West Lafayette campus. It is awarded to staff who accomplish their duties with a special caring and helpfulness to students, faculty and staff. It consists of a medallion, a framed description of the life of Martin and a $1,000 honorarium.
