WBAA launches two new local programs

August 27, 2014

WBAA public radio has begun airing "Ask the Mayor" with mayors from west-central Indiana, and this Friday (Aug. 29) the station will premiere "Off the Field with Morgan Burke," Purdue's director of athletics.

"Ask the Mayor" airs live at noon on Thursdays on WBAA News (AM 920) and is rebroadcast the same evening at 6 p.m. on both WBAA News (AM 920) and WBAA Classical (101.3 FM). In this weekly program, WBAA's news team chats with a mayor from this part of Indiana, discussing the most pressing civic and social issues of the day. Citizens can become more acquainted with their elected leaders and ask questions by emailing ask@wbaa.org or tweeting @wbaanews.

Past programs are available on WBAA's website at any time or click on the following to be directed to some of the most recent programs:

* Crawfordsville's Todd Barton
* Frankfort's Chris McBarnes
* Lafayette's Tony Roswarski
* West Lafayette's John Dennis

"Off the Field with Morgan Burke" will begin Aug. 29, airing every other Friday at noon on WBAA News (AM 920) and at 6 p.m. on both WBAA News and Classical (AM 920 and 101.3 FM). This sports talk show will tackle some of the biggest issues in sports, as well as how they relate to west-central Indiana and Purdue. Each show will focus not on the statistics and the play-by-play of sporting events, but on how teams, coaches and players affect a larger discussion about sports and society.

Listeners also can ask questions of Morgan Burke by emailing news@wbaa.org or by tweeting @WBAANews.

"WBAA has long provided news coverage of events that matter to west-central Indiana," says Greg Kostraba, content director. "With these new programs, we are taking our local news commitment to a higher level. Long-form interviews with area leaders provide more time to talk about complex issues, and therefore keep our listeners informed about the decision-making process in depth."
