Purdue to hold an open house for new academic guest housing on campus

July 28, 2014

Purdue will hold an open house on Aug. 1 to highlight a new on-campus housing option for academic guests. The housing option is being offered through a joint venture between the Office of the Provost, Housing and Food Services and the Purdue Research Foundation.

The 125 Waldron Street apartments are available exclusively to visiting scholars or campus guests invited by academic departments at the West Lafayette campus beginning in August. Suresh Garimella, executive vice president for research and partnerships, piloted the project intended to enhance the residential experience of those visiting Purdue from all over the world.

"As a faculty member myself, I have wished so often for a furnished, high-quality, extended-stay housing option for overseas visitors to our research group," Garimella said. "I am very pleased with the option now available, which will not only offer a convenient option for our guests, but likely also encourage our colleagues to engage in deeper collaborative opportunities with researchers overseas. I am confident this will be an important facilitator for our global partnerships."

The open house will be held 2-4 p.m. All academic departments are invited to attend to tour and ask questions about the facility.

The Waldron apartments are located at the intersection of Waldron and Second streets in the center of Purdue's campus. They sit one block from academic buildings and two blocks from State Street, well within walking distance of Discovery Park, Purdue Memorial Union, Chauncey Village and Wabash Landing.

The one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are available for guests of academic departments at a rate of $75 per night. There is a five-night minimum stay and a deposit will be required with reservation.
