New pilot program introduced for retirees

September 29, 2014

Purdue will be piloting a new program for members of Purdue University Retirees Association (PURA). The program will provide members with the advantage of receiving notifications of non-benefit-eligible short-term assignments and the option to apply, prior to the announcement of the opening to the community.

Vacancies will be posted to the PURA website at www.purdue.edu/retirees with details about the position, including required education and skills. Those interested in the position may be required to submit a resume to the hiring department.

A resource page has been developed (www.purdue.edu/retirees/jobs/) to provide a sample resume and additional tips for personalizing a resume.

To receive notification of vacancies, members will be able to subscribe to a distribution list, which can be found at www.purdue.edu/retirees/jobs/. Each time a new vacancy is posted, an email will be sent to the list.

When a supervisor submits the temporary assignment form (located at www.purdue.edu/hr/doc/Temporary_Position_Request_Form.doc), they will indicate whether they wish to post the vacancy on the PURA website. Once the vacancy is filled, supervisors should notify HR, request removal of the vacancy announcement and request a background check, if applicable.

"Tapping into an experienced and talented pool of our own retirees is a win-win for all. Retirees will have the opportunity to remain engaged with the University community, while providing hiring supervisors with access to a skilled labor pool with institutional experience," says Luis E. Lewin, vice president for human resources.
