Faculty members are encouraged to attend the President's Colloquia, a series of events this academic year that involves faculty lectures and receptions at Westwood, the Purdue presidential residence. The next colloquium is Oct. 22.
Registration is required to attend each colloquium. The series is meant to provide timely information about Purdue scholars' research as well as networking opportunities for faculty members from across the University. More information about the series, including registration links, is available here.
The next colloquium features Alan Beck, the Dorothy N. McAllister Professor of Animal Ecology. Beck's talk is titled "The Importance of Animal Companionship." Among other things, Beck will discuss the mechanisms by which animal companionship affects both human and animal health.
The first colloquium, which was held Sept. 23, featured Jennifer Neville, associate professor of computer science and statistics. Neville's talk, titled "Machine Learning Methods for Predictive Modeling in Online Social Networks," discussed how data from social media can be used to predict user interests and preferences.
