Purdue Polytechnic fellow promotes Purdue at White House event

June 19, 2014

A Purdue Polytechnic Institute faculty fellow and University lecturer participated Wednesday (June 18) in the White House Maker Faire, an event that saw students, entrepreneurs and everyday citizens sharing ideas about innovation.

Davin Huston, continuing lecturer in the College of Technology, attended the event to promote Purdue's ongoing initiatives that foster innovative problem solving and the entrepreneurial spirit. The fair brought together makers of all ages and backgrounds to talk about their use of cutting-edge tools to bring their ideas to life.

Organized by President Barack Obama, the fair celebrated and encouraged those who are using technology to launch businesses; learn vital skills in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields; and lead a grassroots renaissance in American manufacturing.

On Tuesday (June 17), President Mitch Daniels sent a letter to Obama expressing gratitude for the invitation to send a representative to the fair. The letter also outlined ways the University is enthusiastically supporting and cultivating a culture that promotes creative problem solving and entrepreneurship.

Initiatives such as the Purdue Foundry, Purdue Polytechnic Institute and the Association of Mechanical and Electrical Technologists, which is a student organization, "are and will continue to grow as an integral part of today's research university experience," the letter states.

During the fair, Huston regularly tweeted about his experience using @PurduePoly.
