CMD presentations on April 16 open to campus

April 2, 2014

The 2014 Council for Manager Development (CMD) graduating class is scheduled to present results of its project work from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16 in Stewart Center, Fowler Hall. Interested Purdue faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend.

Topics to be presented are:

* Collaborative Referral Program, which is a project assessing the benefits of formalizing a referral partnership between the Center for Health Living and the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center (Co-Rec). The renovation and reopening of the Co-Rec has provided a state-of-the-art facility to the Purdue community and could provide a number of benefits to faculty and staff in addition to the great services Purdue currently provides. Additionally, the Center for Healthy Living provides a convenient and affordable option to members of the Purdue community, providing a holistic and balanced approach to health care. These facilities are conveniently located in close proximity to one another. Success of this project would result in a formalized referral partnership as well as continued follow-up between both the Center for Healthy Living and the Co-Rec. Team: Gary Burniske, Jason Fish, Courtney Hill, Jill Rhodes, Melissa Robertson, April Sauer and Vivian Scott.

* Improving Student Financial Literacy, which is a project conducting an analysis of tools and programs offered by Purdue that are intended to improve the financial literacy of both college-bound and current Purdue students. The result of this analysis will be recommendations regarding the design of a single Web- or app-based tool that closely connects with University financial literacy education programs as well as recommendations regarding the University's longer-term strategy to enhance student financial literacy. Team: Andrew Bean, Carla Hoskins, Jeff Kanable, Sharlee Lyons, Mark Sharp and Andy Zehner.

* Follow the Form, which is a project answering the question, "Why aren't forms fully automated?" by taking an inventory of the paper-based forms being used by a business unit at the University and determining which forms should be eliminated or moved to an automated, online form. Team: Betsy Hillery, Cynthia MacDonald, Warren McComb, Melissa Martin, Bob Meeks, Rob Stanfield and Kerry Ticen.

CMD is a two-year program intended to advance knowledge, enhance skills and foster interdisciplinary contacts helpful to staff as they recognize and take opportunities to move forward in their University careers.

Components of this program are:

* Opportunities to meet with key University leaders and learn about their roles and responsibilities.

* Exposure to significant questions and trends that currently shape the direction of Purdue and higher education.

* Interaction with a cross-functional team to research, analyze, develop strategies and present recommendations for action.
