Assistive technology available at most benefits enrollment walk-in labs

October 30, 2013

Thanks to collaboration between ITaP and Human Resources, assistive technology will be installed at most benefits open enrollment walk-in labs at the West Lafayette campus.

Locations offering assistive technology are indicated in the Benefits Open Enrollment Guide and are listed at the Benefits website at

According to Dean Brusnighan, assistive technology specialist in ITaP, the following assistive software will be available:

* JAWS: A text-to-speech software that enables people with severe visual impairments to use a computer.

* ZoomText: A screen magnifier software that increases the size of text and images on a computer screen.

* Read&Write Gold: A text-to-speech software that assists people with learning disabilities. Text on a computer screen is highlighted as it is read aloud.

Those wishing to use JAWS or Read&Write Gold must bring their own headphones. None will be supplied, and built-in speakers may not be used for confidentiality reasons.

For more information about the assistive technology, call Brusnighan at 49-49082 or email him at
