About 15 organizations and businesses from throughout Purdue's West Lafayette campus and the local area will showcase sustainable vehicles of all stripes today (Oct. 23) at the Alternative Transportation Expo.

Part of Green Week, the expo will take place at 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Centennial and Memorial malls. On display will be biofuel airplanes, hybrid trucks and buses, Zipcars, bicycles and more. The expo is part of Green Week's focus on alternative transportation today.

Kendrick Nissan, an expo exhibitor from Lafayette, will offer attendees test-drives of the Nissan Leaf, an electric car that produces no tailpipe pollution or greenhouse gas emissions. The Office of University Sustainability has invited the exhibitor to showcase the car as an example of a sustainable vehicle at the past three transportation expos.

The expo also will feature the opportunity for attendees to apply for memberships at the Zipcar booth. Zipcar vehicles are available on demand and gas, insurance, maintenance and 180 miles per day are included in every reservation. Reservations start at $7.50 per hour or $69 per day. Purdue students, faculty and staff can sign up for Zipcar membership for $25 per year.

A total of six Zipcars are available on campus. Two are at Grissom Hall, one is at the Life Science Plant and Soils Laboratory, one is at the Black Cultural Center and two are at Shreve Hall.

Zipcar membership sign-up is also available at www.zipcar.com/purdue.
