Purdue to bring peer institutions together for future graduate students

September 4, 2013

More than 50 institutions of higher education will converge on Purdue's West Lafayette campus Oct. 20-21 during the Big Ten+ Graduate School Exposition.

The event, which will be in the Purdue Memorial Union's North and South Ballrooms, is a cooperative effort to provide students with information about graduate education.

Students interested in pursuing graduate study in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and related disciplines will have a chance to talk to faculty and students from various institutions. Workshops on funding graduate study, applying to graduate school, and careers in related fields also will be presented. A dessert reception with recruiters from some of the nation's top institutions also will occur.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for students to obtain comprehensive information about graduate education and research opportunities at a variety of graduate institutions," says Janet Beagle, director of graduate admissions at Purdue. "By attending the expo, students can talk to professors, current graduate students, and staff about graduate school and what steps are necessary to set them on the path they choose."

Purdue students have two options for attending the expo. They may attend Monday's graduate school fair for free with their Purdue ID, or they may participate in all expo events, including workshops, meals, and roundtable discussions, and pay the regular registration fee of $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Purdue students may visit the special Purdue student registration site at www.gradschool.purdue.edu/gradexpo/purduestudents/index.cfm for details. More information about the event is also available online at www.purdue.edu/gradexpo.

Other institutions that will join Purdue representatives include Cornell University; Duke University; The George Washington University; Indiana University; Marquette University; Michigan State University; Northwestern University; The Ohio State University; Princeton University; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Rochester Institute of Technology; Texas A&M University; schools from the University of California system; University of Illinois; University of Michigan; University of Nebraska; University of Wisconsin; Vanderbilt University; Yale University; and many more. Each institution will have one or more representatives at the Graduate School Fair portion of the expo.
