Pharmacist Kamal Singh is now providing medication therapy management services at the Center for Healthy Living.

What is your role as a medication therapy management pharmacist?

I work in conjunction with health care providers to optimize the patient's health and well-being. As an MTM pharmacist, I provide one-on-one sessions with clients to help prevent, identify and resolve any medication-related problems.

What do you focus on during your sessions with clients?

During a one-on-one session, I look at the individual's overall health status and goals with a focus on the patient's medication regimen. These sessions cover any concerns or questions the patient may have about the medications, such as use, benefits, side effects, tolerability and cost. I also evaluate the patient's medication list to ensure there are no drug interactions or duplications of therapy.

Who is eligible to schedule a medication therapy management session?

All benefits-eligible Purdue employees, plus spouses/same-sex domestic partners and other dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan are eligible. The Center for Healthy Living provides MTM service at no cost to these individuals.

What are the overall benefits of medication therapy management?

Through MTM, patients get a better understanding of their medications and the positive effects they will have on their medical conditions. This leads to patients following their medication plans more carefully, improved health outcomes for patients and decreased health care costs.

How did you become interested in medication therapy management?

Over the years as a pharmacist, I have observed the progression of MTM services and the benefits they have for patients. The impact that we, as pharmacists, can have in improving a patient's health through medication therapy education is tremendous. That's what draws me to be an MTM pharmacist at the Center for Healthy Living.

What do you enjoy in your time away from the job?

Outside work, I enjoy traveling, learning about different cultures of the world and spending quality time with my family and friends.
