Appointments being taken now for new Center for Healthy Living

February 21, 2013

The new Center for Healthy Living will open Wednesday (Feb. 27) in the Purdue West Shopping Center, 1400 W. State St. The center will serve benefits-eligible employees and their dependents covered on the Purdue Choice Fund, Purdue Incentive or Purdue Copay medical plans.

"The center's mission is to provide Purdue employees with high-quality health care that's convenient and affordable," says Luis E. Lewin, vice president for human resources.

The Center for Healthy Living will be open 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. It will offer a wide range of services to treat common illnesses and promote health and wellness.

Employees and eligible family members may book appointments now for Feb. 27 and beyond. To schedule an appointment, call 49-40111. Appointments are recommended, and walk-ins will be welcome.

Beginning in early March, clients will have the option to schedule an appointment online through a portal at https://purdue.opticonsite.com. Watch for more information about the portal when it becomes available.

Wait times at the center should be shorter than employees generally experience at the doctor's office, and the Purdue West location may mean less traveling time to get care.

Parking is available on-site, and no permit is required. Four CityBus routes will go to the center. Visit www.purdue.edu/healthyliving for bus route maps.

The Tier 1 lab now located at the State Street Office Facility (SSOF) at 1601 W. State St. will move to the Center for Healthy Living. The lab at the center will be open 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. It will continue to provide Tier 1 lab services through Mid America Clinical Laboratories (MACL). The phlebotomist working at the SSOF location will move to the Center for Healthy Living lab.

The center will accept all major credit cards and debit cards, including debit cards for health savings accounts (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs). The center does not accept cash or checks. Clients will be required to present their Purdue insurance ID card. Employees who are not on a Purdue medical plan will need to show their Purdue University ID (PUID) card.

CHS Health Services will operate the center for Purdue. CHS has been in the business of designing and operating on-site workplace health centers since 1975. Following HIPAA standards of privacy, CHS will ensure that Purdue employees and their family members have the same level of privacy of information at the Center for Healthy Living as they have at other health care facilities.
