WorkLife Programs announces January offerings

WorkLife Programs offers classes on a variety of topics designed to educate employees and improve their overall health.

NUTRITION AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

Healthy Resolutions: Salt Less (email-based)
Jan. 7-31
The goal for January is to reduce sodium intake. Healthy Resolutions is a nine-month, email-based program geared at helping you change your health habits, one month at a time. Most of us start with great intentions of eating better and exercising more. Unfortunately, these vague goals are quickly forgotten and we lose our way. Resolve to change your habits. Each month focuses on a healthy behavior. Make a commitment to better health, one habit at a time. Emails will be sent from Linda Monahan, registered dietitian at WorkLife Programs. Please note that once you register for Healthy Resolutions, you will receive the emails for the following months as well. It is not necessary to register individually for each month.

FAMILY AND RELATIONSHIPS

A Parent's Guide to Choosing Safe and Healthy Child Care

During this training, we will focus on the three different types of child care in the community and explore the 13 guidelines to think about when choosing a child care program.

Ostracism: The Effects of Being Ignored and Excluded
Jan. 17. 12:10-12:50 p.m.  Stewart Center, Room 313.
Being ignored and excluded, even briefly and by strangers (even computers) is painful, activating the pain-detection regions of the brain. It also lowers one's sense of self-esteem, self-efficacy, belonging and worth. New research finds that it literally leaves you cold. This workshop covers the immediate and downstream consequences of being ostracized and summarizes strategies to recover from it.

Changes after 40 (formerly The Healing of the Hormones)

HRT, ERT, black cohosh or soy? From hormone replacements to home remedies, investigate the various alternatives for treating the many symptoms of menopause.
