'The Race Experience' morphs face image, invites discussion

October 15, 2012

A computer-age exploration of personal appearance and identity through face detection software that morphs the image into another racial group is being offered free for 15 days, starting today (Oct. 15).

"The Race Experience" kiosk will be in the west lobby of Stewart Center (under the mural) during all building hours Oct. 15-29. It is sponsored at Purdue by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion.

In the kiosk, individuals can see themselves as black, white, Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern and Native American/Indian. The experience is designed to generate discussion of what exactly race is and how people understand the beliefs, biases and misconceptions about it.
